War and Peace "The opposite of War is not Peace... it is Creation." Jon Larson - Rent |
What does this mean, and how is it applied, in the real world?
Let's use Palestine as an example. The Palestinians have been occupied within their own lands by the newcomer, Israel, for over 50 years now. They rebel from time to time, and the U.N. acquires Israel's promise that they will withdraw to their initial borders, as per the "agreement" that came to be after WWII. But they do not. The "settlements" (no, not sod shacks, but $150,000 tract house developments) remain, and expand ever further into Palestinian "territory". Even deep into Palestine, Israeli military forces occupy and repress the Palestinians, claiming to have found "contraband" weapons. (If Palestine is a sovereign nation, how can Israel declare what is or is not Contraband?) Just how far does one have to oppress people, for how long, until they're willing to pick up a stone against a soldier with a tank or machine gun? But I digress. The point is that Peace Talks continue to fail.... and Israel continues to oppress.
One way in which Israel oppresses Palestine is that they intentionally deny the Palestinians access to the shipping facilities. Israel intentionally leaves trucks full of produce to wait for 3 days at a checkpoint, til the food has all gone rotten. Palestine's poverty is made even greater this way. The Israelis think they'll be easier to control that way. For many years, the U.S. has funded this oppression by providing Israel (itself a wealthy nation) with 5 BILLION dollars each year in "humanitarian aid" and another SEVEN BILLION dollars in military technology, fighter jets, ammo, weapons, etc. This isn't just the U.S. selling them the means of oppression. It's a gift from the U.S. to Israel. Or rather, a form of rent for continued access to the only non-Muslim land base in the Arabian peninsula.
How does Creation come into play?
Rather than asking the Israelis and Palestinians to play nicely together, what Palestine needs is autonomy. What they need are an international airport and a shipping port. Until recently, (since regaining the Gaza Strip) they were entirely landlocked, so they HAD to go through Israel to take their goods to the international market.
If we, the world, help Palestine to create their autonomy, they can prosper without being at the whim of Israel's good graces. Their produce will not go to waste then, and their people will not have to suffer the degredation of waiting in mile-long lines to go through to Jerusalem in hopes of finding work. By Creation, we enable them to help themselves, to continue to Create, to make their own prosperity!
One's prosperity does not inherently reduce any other's prosperity; it doesn't have to cost anyone for someone else to gain.
Israel grows its own crops. If Palestine grows its own as well, that does not take food from Israeli mouths.
Some will say that this is nieve, that it DOES cost Israel because Palestine's goods then compete with theirs on the market place. But that market was never Israel's property in the first place. They can't claim to have lost what was never theirs. All they have is the right to compete - a right they have denied the Palestinians... so no, they're not out anything. This way, though, Israelis eat. Palestinians eat. Both enjoy prosperity and have no need to war. And to top it off, war costs more to fund than Creation
In guiding and helping people to Creation, we go further than just the cessation of hostilities called Peace.
What ways can you think of to promote Creation?
